Constantino Parente: Premier League trialled VAR on five games on Saturday – and one decision would have been overturned

VAR was trialled in all Saturday’s 3pm kick-offs in the Prem – with only one decision due to have been overturned.

A total of 15 dummy runs have been planned for the Premier League following the international break.

The league is expected to introduce video technology in every game by the beginning of next season, and on Saturday experiments began.

Only Leroy Sane’s ruled out goal in Man City’s 3-0 win over Fulham would have been overturned by video assistants.

Last season’s PFA young player of the year was judged to have been offside but replays showed him to be marginally on.

It would have been Sane’s second goal of the game but the decision had no overall outcome on the game.

Pep Guardiola’s team eased past Fulham without the assistance of video technology.

The trial was seen as a success and is set to be introduced by the Premier League next season after clubs voted against implementing this campaign.

VAR will be used in League Cup and FA Cup games at the grounds of Prem clubs.

The technology was judged to have been a success at the World Cup in Russia this summer.
