Constantino Parente: Everton defending branded ‘absolutely shocking’ as Andriy Yarmalenko scores for West Ham from simple long ball

EVERTON have been slated on social media following their defensive horror show at Goodison Park during the first half against West Ham.

Marco Silva‘s side conceded twice against the Hammers through Andriy Yarmolenko, who banged in his first goals for the club since joining from Borussia Dortmund.

The 28-year-old broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, before doubling his tally with an exquisite curling strike just after the half hour mark.

But his opening goal caused fans to heavily criticise the Toffees, as West Ham took the lead following a rapid counter-attack.

Yarmolenko tapped home from close range after getting on the end of a Marko Arnautovic squared pass.

And to the bewilderment of supporters, Everton‘s backline was nowhere to be seen as one lofted pass sent the Austrian international racing clear.

While there were questions marks about Kurt Zouma and Lucas Digne’s defending as they allowed Yarmolenko to cut inside for his second.

The Ukrainian winger failed to be closed down by the French duo, as he unleashed a ferocious shot into the far left corner.

One fan said: “Apparently, defending is optional for Everton today.”

While another simply commented: “That was so so so easy for West Ham. Awful defending by Everton.”
